The House that Love Built

Brooke has only loved one man. Owen's heart is filled with bitterness. Can a mysterious house bring them together for a second chance at love?

In the small town of Smithville, Texas, Brooke Holloway is raising six-year-old Meghan and ten-year-old Spencer on her own two years after her husband's death. Being a single-mom and running the family's local hardware store keep her busy.

While Meghan longs for a daddy, Spencer has threatened to run away if Brooke even goes out on a date. But the last thing on Brooke's mind is falling in love. When a stranger moves to town and buys a house with a mysterious past, Brooke can't contain her curiosity. As she spends time with the new owner, she wonders if maybe God is giving her another chance at happiness.

Owen Saunders fled the big city to start over in a small, rural town famous for baking the world's largest gingerbread man. Then he bought an old house to restore-for all the wrong reasons. If anything needs restoration, it is Owen's heart in the aftermath of his failed marriage. With little hope and lost faith, Owen is tempted by happiness when he meets Brooke, but his heart remains sealed shut.
As they learn more about Owen's house, one thing becomes obvious to both of them: God has put them together for a reason.

A different Amish story, and yet a lot about living your life as Amish. The separation of their Community, and yet the being there for those who are not members.
We experience a lot of good and evil. Katie Bender has suffered a lot of loss in her young life. She has resigned herself to being a teacher, instead of a wife and mother. Then the a tornado destroys her school, along with a lot of their Community.
Seth Stutzman is visiting Hope Falls, he is trying to help his brother-in-law Amos. Seth builds bee hives, but he is also dealing with his demons. Amos is actually shunning his community, and is so bitter.
We find their are evil forces involved, whispering in their ears! Makes you realize where some of those thoughts you personally don't want come from! Especially if you love the Lord.
This book paints these pictures in your mind so that you actually feel like you are part of the battles. We look for Elias, the mighty angel. How lucky they are to have him, he seems to be there when needed.
Will the evil Razzen win? I vote for Elias, but will those hear him and pray?
Loved this book, if you enjoy reading Amish stories, this is a must read.
I received this book through the Thomas Nelson Booksneeze reviewer program, and was not required to give a positive review.

Silent Night" by Colleen Coble

Silent Night" by Colleen Coble is an epilogue of sorts to Coble’s "Rock Harbor Mysteries Series." I haven’t yet read that series, but recognized the main characters, Bree and Samson, from their appearance in "Tidewater Inn," the first book in Coble’s new series. Though I haven’t read the Rock Harbor series, this novella was a complete story all by itself. I never once felt lost, and, in the few cases when Coble referred to previous stories, she didn’t seem to give anything significant away. I’ll definitely want to go back and read those books someday.
In this very short story, Bree’s sister-in-law comes to visit a few weeks after a young woman goes missing and is presumed to be dead. On the day of Laurie’s arrival, a young man is killed in a parachute accident. While attempting search and rescue, Bree finds Laurie in the woods. As the investigation into the young man’s death reveals a connection to the missing woman, Bree becomes concerned about Laurie’s part in the two events.
I enjoyed reading this story, meeting Bree’s family and friends, and learning the truth about Laurie. If you’ve read the Rock Harbor series, you’ll want to read this novella to see what’s next for Samson and Bree. If you haven’t read the series, you still may enjoy this story. I most definitely did.
I thank Thomas Nelson Publishers for sending a complimentary eCopy for this honest review.

Inheriting a beautiful old hotel on the seaward shore of Hope Island could be a dream come true for Libby. The inn cries out for her restorer’s talent and love of history. She’s delighted to learn of family she never knew she had. And the handsome Coast Guard lieutenant she’s met there on the island could definitely be the man of her dreams.
But Libby soon realizes that only way she can afford the upkeep on the inn is to sell it to developers who are stalking the island. The father who willed her the inn has died before she could meet him, and her newfound brothers and sisters are convinced she’s there to steal their birthright. Worst of all, her best friend and business partner has been kidnapped before her eyes, Libby’s under suspicion for the crime, and her handsome lieutenant clearly doubts her innocence.
Libby’s dream-come-true is becoming a nightmare. Can she find her friend and establish her innocence? Must she sell Tidewater Inn and lose her family again? Or can she find a home for her heart on the beautiful shores of Hope Island?

arms of love

Northern Pennsylvania, 1777. Adam Wyse is Amish and no patriot, or so the core of his faith decrees. Yet two wars ravage his heart-the longing for the love of young Lena Yoder and the burning desire to defend the country that brought his religious freedom.
When Lena's father is imprisoned for being a conscientious objector, Lena is left to raise her two siblings alone. She finds herself imprisoned between her beliefs and her attraction to the rebellious Adam-especially when Adam's older brother, Isaac, presents the opportunity for Lena to regain a sense of balance and rightness with the Lord. How will Derr Herr nurture these two strong hearts into a peace that is "not as the world gives" and bring their love to triumph over all?

heart of gold

Christian historical romance of the American Old West, Heart of Gold by Robin Lee Hatcher is a pleasurable and inspiring read. When Shannon Adair moves with her minister father, Delaney, to the Idaho Territory, her thoughts remain on the Civil War that is raging near her Virginia home. Shannon does not expect to fit into this frontier town with its saloons and street fights. She is disappointed to see the tiny parsonage where she will cook, clean and assist her father with pastoral duties. And her first impression of stage driver Matthew Dubois is anything but positive. When his sister and her young son come to live with him, Shannon is called upon to nurse the terminally ill Alice. Shannon's somewhat tumultuous relationship with Matthew must survive another persuasive suitor, stagecoach holdups, and her own pride. The story takes many twists and turns as Shannon's faith in God is tested and strengthened. The author weaves in historical facts of the 1800s, including Civil War anecdotes, into this romance. Her narration is lively and she builds up appropriate suspense that keeps the pages turning. I felt as if I knew the characters. I was there with Shannon when she played the church organ or fried chicken over the wood stove. Delaney's faith in the face of obstacles and his Scripture verses were inspirational. I enjoyed this ebook and recommend Heart of Gold to others.
I received this book free of charge from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review

beyond molasses creek

Three lives are bound by a single book . . . and the cleansing waters of Molasses Creek.
Having traveled to the ends of the earth as a flight attendant, Ally Green has finally returned to the Lowcountry to bury her father as well as the past. But Vesey Washington is still living across the creek, and theirs is a complicated relationship--he was once her best friend . . . and also part of the reason she's stayed away so long. When Ally discovers a message her father left behind asking her to quit running, it seems her past isn't through with her yet.
As Ally's wandering spirit wrestles with a deep longing to flee again, a young woman on the other side of the world escapes her life of slavery in the rock quarries of Nepal. A mysterious sketchbook leads Sunila Kunari to believe there's more to her story than she's ever been told, and she's determined to follow the truth wherever it leads her.
A deep current intertwines the lives of these three souls, and a destiny of freedom, faith, and friendship awaits them all on the banks of Molasses Creek.

Smitten

Book Description: Four friends devise a plan to turn Smitten, Vermont, into the country's premier romantic getaway-and each finds her own true love along the way.

With Smitten Lumber closing, residents wonder if their town can stay afloat. Then four friends and local business owners-Natalie, Julia, Shelby, and Reese--decide the town is worth saving. How will they do it? They'll turn Smitten into a honeymoon destination! As Natalie, Julia, Shelby, and Reese work to save the town, each discovers romance in her own life. Meanwhile, the faith of a little child reminds the whole town what it means to have real faith in the God who is the always and forever Love.

My Review:  The lumber town of Smitten has been smitten with a case of bad luck; no lumber mill, no town?
But four friends decide the town is worth saving and come up with a plan! A honeymoon destination for those who are smitten by the love bug.
"Natalie" by Colleen Coble is all about Natalie and Joe Smitten, the town leader.  Natalie finds that the heart of a person goes deeper than their words.
"Julia" by Kristin Billerbeck how Julia must come to grips with Jake without letting him burn up all her plans.
"Shelby" by Diann Hunt is about Shelby and mountain man, Nick.  Shelby loves tea and Nick loves trees, ummm...quite a mix!
"Reese" by Denise Hunter finds Reese smitten by her long time friend, Griffen.  Reese's plan to get Griffen's attention is humorous and quite original.
This is a fun, light read!  A great book for sitting by the fire with a cup of hot tea or cocoa.
